The conflict in the Middle East between Israel and Hamas continues, now on its 593rd day, with growing involvement from Lebanon, Syria, Iran, and Yemen. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israel "is ready for a temporary ceasefire, if there is an opportunity", and that he does not want "a humanitarian crisis in Gaza." Meanwhile, tension rose in the West Bank during a diplomatic visit to Jenin. An Israeli army unit fired warning shots into the air, causing terror among members of an international delegation consisting of 25 ambassadors and diplomats from European and Arab countries, as well as China, Japan, and India. Among those present was the Italian Deputy Consul Alessandro Tutino, who was unharmed. Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani termed the threats against diplomats "unacceptable" and summoned the Israeli ambassador to Rome for official clarifications. The Israeli army expressed remorse for the incident, stating that the delegation would have deviated from the agreed-upon route and entered an unauthorized area, as per an initial reconstruction. For security purposes, the soldiers would then discharge warning shots. Nobody was wounded.
