On the 33rd anniversary of the Capaci massacre, which killed judge Giovanni Falcone, his wife Francesca Morvillo, and three escort agents, President Sergio Mattarella recalled the anti-mafia magistrate's words: "The mafia, like every human fact, had a beginning and will have an end". An appeal, the Head of State emphasized, for consistency and educational commitment, so that everyone, together with institutions, does their part. Mattarella recalled the harsh blows dealt to organized crime, but also warned of the necessity to continue the work of contrast, noting its transformations: from new linkages with the economy and finance to the "gray areas" that emerge when civic commitment is weak. "We must always maintain a high level of vigilance", he stated, “involving new generations in the responsibility to build a future free from criminal constraints".
