Michael Schumacher's legendary Ferrari F2001, with which he won his fourth world championship - his second in the red car - was sold at auction for $18.17 million (nearly €16 million), setting a new record for a single-seater driven by the German champion. The sale occurred in Monte Carlo during the auction arranged by RM Sotheby's in conjunction with the Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend. The protagonist was chassis 211, which won the Monaco Grand Prix in 2001 and, later in the season, the Hungarian Grand Prix, where Schumacher mathematically won the world championship. During that successful season, Ferrari also won the Constructors' World Championship. The previous record was set by the F2003-GA, which sold for $13.2 million in 2022 at auction. The F2001 is currently ranked fourth among the most expensive Formula 1 single-seaters of all time, trailing only the 1955 Mercedes W196 R Stromlinienwagenwagen, driven by Juan Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss and sold for $54 million earlier this year.
