Between April and May, about 13,000 landings occurred on Italian coasts, compared to 9,700 during the same months in 2024. A 30% increase, which, given Libya's utter instability, alarms the Ministry of the Interior. Especially considering that the overall figure for 2025, 21,920, is higher than that of May of last year, when figures were still below 20,000. "We are worried about migratory flows, in recent weeks we have had a resumption of departures from Libya, a country of great importance", stated Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi. "At this juncture, the possibility of the instrumentalization of those channels, for instance, by terrorism, is once again raised", he concluded.
