Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, speaking at the Chamber briefing on the Middle East crisis, reiterated Italy's readiness to participate in a possible peacekeeping mission in Gaza under the leadership of the Arab League. “Italy, as Minister Crosetto also said, is ready to contribute to a possible peacekeeping mission,” he said. Tajani went on to express strong concern about the re-emergence of anti-Semitic incidents, including recent ones: “Even Senator Segre has been the subject of incredible, aberrant anti-Semitic insults. The Israeli government's mistakes cannot be blamed on Jews. I say to those who foment anti-Semitism for petty convenience: stop now”. The minister reiterated Italy's support for the two-state solution, calling it “the only way capable of guaranteeing dignity and rights to both Israelis and Palestinians”. Finally, he firmly ruled out any possibility of expelling the Palestinians from Gaza: “It is not and will never be an acceptable solution. We support the Arab plan supported by Egypt, which rejects any hypothesis of displacement”.
