In 2024, nearly 61,000 parents with children up to three years old left their jobs in Italy. A mass departure driven by working too many hours, having enormous tasks, and wanting to work for a better company. However, the primary reason for this is the impossibility of balancing professional and childcare responsibilities. According to Repubblica, over 35,000 parents have identified this as their primary motivation. They disclosed this at the time of their resignation, during an audit by the National Labour Inspectorate. Once again, it was mostly women who resigned, over 42 thousand, suggesting among the different reasons, first and foremost childcare. But nearly 19,000 men also resigned — accounting for 30.5% of the total. This is the first time such a figure has been recorded. Just two years earlier, the percentage was only 7.1%.
