Italian-American Salvatore Palella becomes publisher. After his experience with Helbiz - which began as a scooter company and then expanded into ghost kitchens and soccer TV rights - and the acquisitions of Everli and Wash Out, the entrepreneur has taken over La Sicilia, the island's historic daily newspaper and a point of reference for millions of Sicilians. The transaction was conducted through Palella Holdings, the family office led by the Acireale-born entrepreneur and longtime U.S. resident, and was finalized through Sicily Investment Fund. At the same time, a new publishing company was established with Gianluca Spriano (CFO of Palella Holdings) in the role of CEO, thus sanctioning an important baton handover after 80 years of uninterrupted management by the Ciancio Sanfilippo family, which had edited the newspaper since its founding in 1945. Palella spoke of a "gesture of love for my land" that goes beyond the editorial initiative: "As a Sicilian who has lived abroad for a long time, I feel the duty and desire to contribute to the future of the island, starting precisely from free, modern and positive communication. Sicily will continue to be the voice of Sicilians, with deep roots but an eye on the world. It is time to raise our heads again, together”.
