Some 15 million Italians are ready to leave for the June 2 weekend, which for many will last nearly four days. A 7 billion turnover is expected, with per capita "all inclusive" spending of 470 euros. Only 7.6% will choose a destination abroad. The majority of those staying in Italy will go to the seaside, others will choose art cities, mountains, lakes and spa resorts. The choice to leave has forced greater attention to costs. The bulk of spending will be on meals (29.1%). Travel and lodging absorb 21.7% and 18.4% of the budget, respectively, while shopping will be allocated 12.8%. Almost a quarter of those leaving will stay in hotels or resorts, and a similar share will be hosted by relatives and friends. Some 22% will stay in bed & breakfasts, 15.2% in their own homes. The car remains the preferred means of transportation for 75% of vacationers, another 18% will use the plane and only 4.4% the train. Once at their destination, they will devote themselves to walks, food and wine events, excursions and trips but also visit museums and exhibitions.
