Twenty years after the last major exhibition on ancient Egypt in Italy, Rome is preparing to host an extraordinary event: Treasures of the Pharaohs, scheduled at the Scuderie del Quirinale from October 24, 2025 to May 3, 2026. Presented at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, the exhibition promises to be the most impressive ever mounted in our country on the civilization of the pharaohs. On display are 130 artifacts, many of which will leave the banks of the Nile for the first time in 5,000 years. Among the highlights are the sumptuous golden sarcophagus of the warrior queen Ahhotep and the golden funerary mask of Pharaoh Amenemope, considered the second important mask after the famous one of Tutankhamun. Recounting the many facets of Egyptian civilization will be an itinerary divided into thematic sections: the power of rulers, daily life, deities, and the afterlife. "Each object holds a human voice," explains curator Tarek El Awady. Also on display are artifacts from the legendary City of Gold, a discovery that earned Zahi Hawass the International Archaeology Prize in 2022. The organizers' goal is ambitious: to exceed one million visitors. "This exhibition is a symbol of cultural diplomacy," said Italy's ambassador to Cairo Michele Quaroni, while for Fabio Tagliaferri, President of Ales, it represents "a bridge between Italy and the Mediterranean" in line with the goals of the Mattei Plan.
