Yesterday, at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Forestry, the bilateral meeting between Minister Francesco Lollobrigida and the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Brooke Leslie Rollins, took place. The fact that Secretary Rollins has made Italy her first official EU visit since taking office is evidence of the strength and importance of the US-Italy relationship. Among the topics addressed, particular attention was paid to the growth of agri-food trade, which in 2024 exceeded 8 billion euros. Italy has been reaffirmed as the third largest supplier of agri-food goods to the United States, with sectors of excellence including wine, olive oil, pasta, and cheese. The positive impact of Italian exports on the creation of value in the United States was also emphasized, as a result of virtuous supply chains that generate economic benefits and employment for both countries. In this regard, the establishment of a technical table was announced to facilitate meetings among agri-food operators with the goal of enhancing commercial collaboration. Soybeans will receive special attention, as the United States is one of the top producers and Italy is an important importer. Improving agricultural commerce between two friendly countries implies increasing economic efficiency and competitiveness. "For Italy, the dialogue with the United States is a strategic axis of foreign agricultural policy", stated Minister Lollobrigida. Today, there is a stronger sense of the historical phase we are living in, one that requires us to commit to strengthening the economies of our nations, which share common values". This first meeting is part of a larger process of enhancing bilateral agricultural cooperation between Italy and the United States, with a focus on future joint initiatives and international opportunities to advance this connection.
