The global economic picture has deteriorated. The latest Economic Outlook from the OECD indicates that the deceleration is being influenced by a variety of factors, including the growth of political uncertainty, the tightening of financial conditions, the decline in confidence, and the emergence of new trade barriers. Global growth is expected to decline to 2.9% in 2025 and remain flat in 2026, down from 3.3% in 2024. In Italy, however, there are hopeful indicators regarding public finances. The OECD forecasts a deficit reduction to 3.1% in 2025, with the debt-to-GDP ratio dropping to 148.2%. The improvement is predicted to continue in 2026, with a 2.8% deficit and a debt-to-GDP ratio declining to 147.7%. The report emphasizes that these optimistic projections are a component of a framework in which "the Italian government remains dedicated to the medium-term sustainability of public finances and the reduction of the fiscal deficit".
