Lorenzo Musetti continues to write significant chapters in his career. On Roland Garros' red clay, the Tuscan tennis player advanced to his first Paris quarterfinal by defeating American Frances Tiafoe 6-2, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 in 2 hours and 47 minutes of play. An accomplishment that places him in the top four of the French Slam, following his achievement of the same milestone at Wimbledon in 2024. The Italian started strong, quickly going up 3-0 in the opening set and comfortably closing it 6-2, even saving a delicate break point. Tiafoe responds in the second set, taking advantage of the sole opportunity presented and balancing the match. But from the third set on, Musetti raised his game: a decisive break in the final moments gave him the 7-5, before dominating the fourth with a commanding 3-0 start that dashed the American’s hopes. With this victory, Musetti - who is presently ranked seventh in the world -- secures a dream semifinal matchup against Carlos Alcaraz, who defeated Tommy Paul in three sets.
