A summit to promote cooperation and a common vision for Europe's future. At Palazzo Chigi, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni engaged in a bilateral meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron that lasted approximately three hours. Subsequently, delegations were invited to an official dinner. The head of the Elysée immediately left for Paris following the meeting. The conversation revolved upon mutual support for Ukraine, the development of European security, and strong convergence on the EU's competitiveness strategy. According to a joint statement, the two leaders emphasized the importance of coordinating European efforts to confront more complex and frequent issues, emphasizing their commitment to a "more sovereign, stronger, and prosperous" Europe. The continent's economic revival was the focus of particular attention, which included the development of strategic sectors such as artificial intelligence, the automotive and steel industries, nuclear power, and space, as well as the simplification of regulations, incentives for public and private investment, and the energy transition. France and Italy want to work together to ensure that European enterprises have a level playing field, even in transitional industries. On the international security front, in addition to "unwavering support" for Kiev, which was deemed even more important more than three years after the war began, stability in the Middle East and Libya were discussed, as well as transatlantic cooperation and strategies to protect the EU's economic security. The conference also lay the groundwork for the future, with the next bilateral summit to be held in France in early 2026. It will be an opportunity to assess the implementation of the Quirinal Treaty, which has been in place since 2023, with a particular emphasis on youth-oriented activities and new areas of sectoral collaboration.
