It was supposed to be a day of sunshine and joy, but it turned into a nightmare. On Monday morning, a chlorine leak from a swimming pool at a sports center in Rome's Borghesiana district intoxicated five children, four of whom were brothers. One of them, a 9-year-old child, is in critical condition in the intensive care unit at the Umberto I Polyclinic. According to reports, the child is not responding to drug therapies, and physicians are concerned about the potential for permanent neurological harm as a result of the prolonged exposure to the chemical that leaked from the water vents. The Public Prosecutor's Office in Rome has launched an investigation into the possibility of grievous bodily harm. The alarm went off around 10 a.m., when one of the children allegedly notified his mother, "Mom, the water is turning yellow". Moments later, symptoms began to appear. The children were quickly rescued by 118 personnel: three youngsters (ages 5, 7, and 11) and a 7-year-old girl were sent to the hospital with symptoms including skin irritation and respiratory difficulties. Two of them have already been discharged, while two others are still hospitalized for observation.
