Jannik Sinner joins Lorenzo Musetti in the semifinals of Roland Garros for the second year in a row. The 23-year-old from Sesto Pusteria got right in the quarterfinals of Kazakhstan's Aleksandr Bublik, world number 62 and a genuine surprise of the tournament, with a score of 6-1, 7-5, 6-0 in one hour and 40 minutes of play. The world number 1, who never lost his serve and conceded only two break points, suffered only in the second set, where Bublik put him in trouble with bunts and his serve. Now in the semifinals, scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m., Sinner will face the winner of the match between Zverev and Djokovic. Another great show of strength by Sinner who conquers his sixth career Slam final, risking only in the second set and strolling as he did against Lehecka and Rublev in the first and third. It was therefore a great Italian success on the Parisian clay, with two semifinalists out of four, the world number 1 and Musetti. With the historic feat by the two Azzurri, Italy brings two Italian players back to the semifinals at Roland Garros for the first time in 65 years. The only previous for our tennis in 1960 when Orlando Sirola overcame in the quarters the number 1 seed Barry MacKay 6-3, 7-5, 6-2 and Nicola Pietrangeli who got the better of Andres Gimeno 6-3, 6-1, 3-6 6-2. Then only Pietrangeli made it all the way to the last act; this year the hope for an all-Italian final is more alive than ever.
