At the very center of the network, among online chats, specialized forums, and WhatsApp messages, there is a community of Italians who are preparing for the worst without being overwhelmed by the anxiety of disaster They are the preppers, ordinary citizens - employees, parents, students, and volunteers - who opt to confront emergency situations with technical skills, operational autonomy, and a proactive attitude. For some years, the Italian Prepper Association (AIP), which began in 2019 as a Telegram chat and grew in the midst of the Covid 19 pandemic, has given this culture legal structure. The AIP does more than just promote prepping as an individual philosophy; it organizes training, volunteering, and awareness-raising events with the goal of rediscovering the relationship between the environment, body, technology, and community, as the president told Wired. "We do not welcome those with radical ideals, whether political or religious. Our purpose is to teach people how to manage emergencies effectively, not to create bunkers for civil war". With active members and regional chapters in cities such as Milan, Turin, Bari, Naples, and Trento, the association conducts at least five courses annually. These courses cover a variety of topics, including first aid in remote environments, the management of CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear) emergencies, urban and rural prepping techniques, and workshops for children. These workshops include practical activities such as fire starting, nocturnal orientation, knots, and the recognition of plants and animals.
