According to the Eurispes survey on citizens and politics, Italians are concerned about the possibility of a new global economic crisis, unresolved conflicts, and extreme weather events. In this context, Italians confirm their trust in the Meloni government's stability and approve some measures such as criminal imputability of minors under 14 for serious crimes, the new Highway Code, and the separation of careers for magistrates. However, the global economic framework and conflicts that are dangerously close to Europe are causing concern for the future. 43.7% of the population believes that Italy is a marginal state that is not in a position to make decisions and is instead influenced by the political stances of the United States and the European Union. On the other hand, 39.6% of respondents claim that their country partially functions autonomously and partially follows U.S. and EU policy lines. 43.2% identify as Italian citizens first and foremost. Just under one-fifth of Italians (22%) identify as European. The survey also shows how most Italians (67.6%) fear a fresh global economic crisis. Seven out of ten (69.5%) fear extreme weather occurrences, whereas 57.8% fear earthquakes. 46.1% of citizens fear World War III, while 45% fear a new pandemic. 44.4% of Italians fear the Italian state's economic and financial insolvency, as Greece has experienced in the past, while 45.2% fear an unprecedented tax levy to save the national economy.
