The State Police of Rome detained a 63-year-old man of Argentine nationality on allegations of abusive medical practice and aggravated fraud. The fake doctor, who had no qualifications in Italy, posed as an expert in novel therapy for autism and preyed on the desperation of families with children suffering from major neurological diseases. The investigations, coordinated by the Rome Public Prosecutor's Office and carried out by the Cyber Security Operations Center, began with a complaint from a couple, parents of a fifteen-year-old, who had relied on the self-proclaimed specialist after reading a false curriculum online. The individual also bragged of ties to Pope John Paul II and scores of cardinals, which turned out to be false. The arrest was ordered by the preliminary investigations judge at the Rome Tribunal, who placed the suspect under house arrest.
