Once again this year, Puglia stands out for the quality of its bathing waters, confirming its first place nationwide. This is the fifth consecutive year that the region has topped the rankings compiled by the National System for Environmental Protection (SNPA), with an excellent result: 99.7% of the monitored waters received the maximum score. Right behind are Friuli Venezia Giulia, with 99.6%, Sardinia (98.7%) and Tuscany (98.2%). Sicily is not included in the survey, as controls are carried out by the regional health system and not by Arpa. Overall, the microbiological analyses conducted by SNPA promote the entire peninsula with flying colors. Of the approximately 5,300 kilometers of coastline monitored, as much as 95.7% (or more than 5,100 km) fall into the “excellent” quality category. Specifically, 2.8% are classified as “good”, while very small percentages fall into the ‘sufficient’ (0.6%) and “poor” (0.7%) classes.
