Book on U.S. first ladies presented in Montecitorio, Deputy Bergamini praises their key political role
"The ‘bridges’ between the EU and the U.S. are many, so studying the political role that so many first ladies have played as Anita McBride did is an opportunity to retrace the relations between our two countries. And it is also very instructive: unlike us, the U.S. has not yet had a woman president, I hope it will happen soon, but the important thing is that that woman is very good, capable and has a personal history that also makes her free from so many pressures". Thus spoke Deborah Bergamini, Forza Italia Congresswoman and Deputy Secretary, on the sidelines of the presentation at the Chamber of the book “U.S. First Ladies: Making History and Leaving Legacies”, written by Anita McBride - present in Montecitorio - together with Diana B. Carlin and Nancy Kegan Smith. McBride, who served as assistant to President George W. Bush and chief of staff to First Lady Laura Bush from 2005 to 2009, is an associate of NIAF, who is visiting Italy these days. A meeting strongly desired by Hon. Fucsia Nissoli Fitzgerald, member of the NIAF board, and promoted by Hon. Deborah Bergamini and Hon. Laura Ravetto. “Analyzing the path of the First Ladies,” adds the Forza Italia foreign affairs officer, "allows us to also go a little behind the scenes of so many moments when the United States really made history, impacted so many geopolitical contexts also thanks to the beneficial influence of the wives of American presidents. The summary is that women can really play an important political and social role, whether they are wives or whether they are presidents themselves”.
