Controversy erupted in Albiate, Brianza, following the center-left municipal administration's changes to the traditional San Fermo festival, now in its 416th edition this year. What causes most debate is the “no” to salamella sausage during peak hours, a decision that sparked protests from the Lega party and the withdrawal of the historic association "Amici di San Fermo". Mayor Veronica Gallo justifies the health change, saying, "We are not banning salamella, but we will avoid serving it to the elderly during the hottest hours. The idea is to provide a lighter meal that aligns with our membership in the Network of Healthy Cities". In addition to the salamella, the administration has canceled the tractor parade and the traditional livestock exhibition. In their place, there is a children's educational farm. "We no longer want animals locked in cages, but educational experiences", Gallo stated. On tractors, on the other hand, the decision would have been made in response to safety issues that arose last year. Lastly, the "Friends of San Fermo" withdrew from the project following the announcement of a more extensive involvement of other local associations. "Health is a transversal issue, but someone is exploiting it", concludes the mayor.
