The Solemnity of Pentecost was celebrated yesterday morning in St. Peter's Square as part of the Jubilee of Movements, Associations and New Communities. Presiding at the Mass was Pope Leo XIV, who made a strong appeal for unity, fraternity and peace, recalling that it is the Holy Spirit who unites hearts and opens the frontiers of humanity. During his homily, the Pontiff emphasized that “the Spirit also opens the frontiers between peoples”. Recalling the biblical episode of Pentecost, he affirmed that the harmony generated by the Spirit counteracts the chaos of Babel, transforming differences into a shared richness, not a reason for division: “Where there is love, there is no room for prejudice nor for the logic of exclusion that surfaces even in political nationalisms”. Pope Leo XIV then quoted Pope Francis' words on the growing human disconnection despite technological hyperconnection, "Today in the world there is so much discord, so much division. We are all connected and yet disconnected from each other, anesthetized by indifference and oppressed by loneliness". In this context, the wars that bloody the planet are, according to the Pope, a “tragic sign” of a lost humanity. The Pontiff concluded his reflection with a heartfelt invocation, "May the Spirit break down the walls of hatred and help us to live as children of the one Father who is in heaven. Brothers and sisters, it is Pentecost that renews the Church, renews the world!" An invitation to be guided by the “vigorous wind of the Spirit” to build a world that is more just, in solidarity and at peace.
