Carlos Alcaraz wins Roland Garros at the end of a breathtaking final against Jannik Sinner, the longest in the tournament's history (5 hours and 29 minutes). After losing the first two sets, the Spaniard succeeds in an extraordinary comeback that leads him to lift his fifth Slam trophy, his second consecutive on Paris clay. A battle lasting more than five and a half hours was staged on the Philippe Chatrier, closed in the fifth set with the score of 4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 7-6 in favor of the world number two. Sinner gets off to a strong start, finding solidity and cynicism in the key moments of the first two partials. But Alcaraz reacts with character: he takes the third set, cancels three match points in the fourth and completes the feat in the super tie-break of the fifth, giving the audience a thrilling finale. Disappointed but lucid Sinner still showed great sportsmanship after the defeat: "A few months ago I would have signed to be here. It's been an amazing tournament, even if it's hard to take in now. I won't sleep very well tonight, but that's okay. Kudos to Carlos for an outstanding performance. It's easier to play than to talk in these moments”.
