"Taxation is also the business card of a state's credibility", said Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during the 2025 General Assembly of Accountants. According to the premier, the tax system should not burden individuals and businesses with complex laws and disproportionate taxes in comparison to public services, but rather support the country's growth and prosperity. Meloni emphasized that her government's tax reform is a critical move that has been expected for more than 50 years. "We chose to intervene," she clarified, "because we believe that taxation should be comprehensible and accessible, rather than reserved for professionals. Its objective is to promote those who create wealth, optimize the state apparatus, and aid the most vulnerable". She then emphasized the significance of prudent administration of public resources, saying: "We need common sense, not waste. In recent years, we have attempted to apply this thinking".
