As of October 1, 2025, a stop on the circulation of Euro 5 diesel cars on weekdays, from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., will be triggered in municipalities with more than 30 thousand inhabitants in Lombardy, Piedmont, Veneto and Emilia-Romagna. The ban will remain in effect until April 15, 2026. The measure, contained in a government decree, aims to reduce PM10 emissions in the country's most polluted areas. The cars affected are those registered between 2011 and 2015: the environmental class is indicated in the vehicle registration under V.9. The stop is a consequence of the November 2020 EU Court of Justice ruling that condemned Italy for systematically exceeding particulate matter limits in several areas of the North.
