A 47-year-old woman from Ecuador died in the emergency room of Policlinico Umberto I after a liposuction procedure performed in an unlicensed cosmetic medicine studio in Primavalle, Rome. The illness occurred during the operation: according to the investigation, the medical staff present allegedly tried to resuscitate her without immediately alerting help. Only after hours was a private ambulance called, which arrived before the 118. Upon arrival at the hospital, the patient was already in cardiovascular arrest and in critical condition. Doctors attempted to revive her for more than an hour, but to no avail. The death occurred Sunday evening around 8 p.m. Prosecutors opened an investigation for manslaughter. The surgeon, anesthesiologist and nurse present are under investigation. The owner of the facility, Jose Lizarraga Picciotti, has a history of injuries related to cosmetic surgery. The practice was placed under seizure: the last medical authorization dates back to 2007. An autopsy will be performed in the coming days.
