Prada Group and UNESCO have announced the launch of Sea Beyond, a "multi-partner trust fund for connecting people and ocean". With an initial donation of €2 million from Prada, the fund will mobilize financial resources from multiple partners, including with the goal of restoring the relationship with the ocean, one of the objectives of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, coordinated by UNESCO. The fund has been established for five years and will be the first of its kind to promote projects that merge science, culture, and maritime education in a synergistic manner, with activities in five priority areas. They encompass blue education, which aims to equip students with the requisite knowledge and skills, including the integration of ocean education into school curricula, and empowerment, which aims to enhance the skills of young people and professionals at the outset of their professions. The fund will be supported by a Committee made up of experts from the scientific community who will provide technical advice on the most pressing issues to be addressed in the calls.
