“I never thought I would have to share such news with you”. Thus the President of the Calabria Region, Roberto Occhiuto, announced in a video posted on social media that he had received a notice of investigation for corruption as part of a broader inquiry involving several individuals. Visibly shaken, Occhiuto expressed disbelief at the allegations, recalling how he had always governed the Region with the utmost rigor and without ever engaging in conduct that could even remotely suggest corruption. "I am not serene at all. For me this is infamous, it is as if I had been accused of murder". Occhiuto reiterated that he did not want to change his attitude toward the judiciary: "I have always said that in Calabria we must investigate thoroughly. And it also applies to me. Check everything: I have nothing to hide". The governor also explained that he has already asked to be heard by the magistrates as soon as possible, “even in the dark, without knowing yet what I am accused of,” to clarify his position.
