Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has ended up at the center of an investigation conducted by the State Police under the coordination of the Udine Public Prosecutor's Office. According to findings, the Nigerian footballer is allegedly involved, along with three other people, in an alleged scam against bookmaker Snaitech, linked to the March 11, 2024 Serie A match Lazio-Udinese. On that day, during the match played at the Stadio Olimpico, control systems had detected anomalous flows of bets, all of which focused on the caution of the Bianconeri goalkeeper. The event was anything but a foregone conclusion - quoted at 8 to 1 - but then it punctually occurred in the 63rd minute, due to a loss of time. The bets, almost all registered in the province of Udine, yielded winnings in excess of 120,000 euros. The investigation, carried out by the Udine Mobile Squad with support from the Central Operations Service, the Games Police Unit and Trieste’s Sisco, allegedly revealed a suspected agreement between Okoye and at least one of the bettors. Sports Justice is also moving in. Federal Prosecutor Giuseppe Chinè has already opened a file to investigate possible violations of the Code of Sports Justice. Under Article 30, the fullback faces up to four years of disqualification and a minimum fine of 50,000 euros for alleged sports misconduct. Investigators are also assessing whether other players were aware of the agreement or whether similar episodes occurred in other matches.
