A day of testing turned into drama at the Poland Rally. Matteo Doretto, 21, Italian Junior 2024 champion, lost his life following a road accident that occurred near Elganowo in the Pasym region. The young driver, originally from Pordenone, was driving the Peugeot 208 Rally4 when the vehicle crashed into a tree. The impact, which was extremely violent, hit the driver's side full on, making rescue efforts futile. Confirming the news was Grzegorz Różański, spokesman for the Olsztyn Fire Department, which responded to the scene of the accident. Despite prolonged attempts at extraction and resuscitation, the doctor on the scene could only pronounce Doretto dead. On board with him was co-pilot Samuele Pellegrino, 26, who managed to exit the cockpit independently. In a state of shock, he was transported to the hospital for investigation, but his condition does not raise concerns. The Italian motorsport world is in shock at the passing of one of the most promising emerging talents on the national scene. Matteo Doretto had won the Junior title just this year and represented one of the future hopes of tricolor rallying. The event organization and local authorities have launched an investigation to clarify the dynamics of the accident.
