Venice and the Lagoon islands contain a magnificent collection of private and public gardens. One of these is the Orto Giardino of the Church of the Most Holy Redeemer, on the island of Giudecca—a complex created in the wake of the 1575–1577 plague, once home to Capuchin friars and designed by Palladio. Palladio created the Garden Garden of the Convent of the Church of the Most Holy Redeemer on the island of Giudecca, which was built after the plague of 1575-1577 to house Capuchin friars. There, flowers were cultivated to decorate the altars and medicinal herbs were cultivated to provide medical assistance to the ill. The Garden of the Redeemer sustained considerable damage during the 2019 flood, therefore, the Provincial Curia of the Capuchin Friars Minor entrusted its rehabilitation and recovery to the Venice Gardens Foundation. The garden is currently operational as a result of a modest production that spans approximately one hectare and was funded by The Gritti Palace, one of the most luxurious hotels in the lagoon. The garden's products, including vegetables, go straight into the hotel kitchen in the hands of chef Alberto Fol, who has dedicated an entire menu to the Hortus Redemptoris, called: 'Orto della Laguna', which includes a substantial vegetable component. Food costs 150 euros per person for a minimum of two people.
