The America's Cup - the oldest sailing competition in the world - to be held in Naples between spring and summer 2027, "will represent an important opportunity for growth and development not only for the city of Naples but for the whole nation", stated Tourism Minister Daniela Santanchè. Just consider", she continued, "that each euro invested in the event doubles its social value for stakeholders and the territory, and, in the long term, it could even quadruple it". It is predicted that at a cost of 100 million euros for event organization, with 70% spent locally, an economic impact of approximately 690 million will be achieved. Looking ahead 5-10 years, the America's Cup, which will feature the Italian Luna Rossa and Alfa Romeo as its sponsor, would generate an additional value exceeding 1.2 billion. In addition, thanks to the event the Naples brand's reputation would be improved, resulting in a 5-10% rise in the number of tourists to the city and a corresponding tourist expenditure of $200-400 million per year for the two years after the event. Additionally, 11,000 employment opportunities would be generated in the region, with 2,000 of them being permanent positions in tourism, nautical services, and related industries.
