After the Israeli attack on Iran, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is closely monitoring the development of the situation and convened a meeting via video conference with relevant ministers and top intelligence officials. Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani held an emergency meeting at the Farnesina crisis unit focused on the safety of Italian citizens in the Gulf. Non-essential travel to the region was advised against and contacts initiated with Italians present in Iran and Israel. “I was not thinking of an attack so soon,” Tajani said, pointing out that it was a unilateral action. He reiterated his call for dialogue: “Diplomacy must prevail, we will do everything possible to avoid escalation”. At the moment, no Italians are reported to be in danger, but caution remains high.
