"Only those who live in luxurious living rooms could believe that the citizenship question made any sense". This is how Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni dismissed the recently rejected referendum, speaking from the stage of the 25th anniversary celebration of Libero newspaper. The prime minister dismissed the referendum plan as "nonsense" and stated that "many people live in one country for a few years before moving to another. This makes the concept even more out of date". According to Meloni, the vote outcome was "clear" despite "surreal attempts to disguise it": the left "lost" and the referendum was not a test of the government, but rather of the opposition. She harshly criticized the referendum's promoters, accusing them of causing "Italians to spend 400 million, despite knowing that the quorum would not be reached". Meloni said she was comfortable with her executive's line: "I continue to believe that there is no need to change the law. I'm glad to be in agreement with the vast majority of Italians. It takes humility to listen to the country". During the approximately twenty-minute interaction with the Milanese audience, Vittorio Feltri, the founder of the newspaper Libero, expressed his admiration for the premier, who responded with irony: "The feeling is mutual". There was also room for validation of the economic results: "In these two and a half years, we have created a million jobs, just like Berlusconi promised", she stated. Finally, a comment on foreign politics. Meloni noted that the tensions between Donald Trump and Elon Musk have "debunked many narratives that spoke of an alliance between the political right and techno-financial power" in her commentary. She welcomed the Tesla founder's apologies to Trump and hoped for a reconciliation between the two. "Trump is courageous, forthright, and committed to defend his country's interests. Just like I do for Italy", she concluded.
