“Italy officially joins the EU Alliance on Nuclear Power, having participated so far as an observer”. This was announced by the Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, at a meeting of the alliance held this morning on the sidelines of the ongoing Energy Council in Luxembourg. “This,” the minister stressed, "is a decision in line with the energy policy choices of the Italian government, which strongly promotes the principle of technological neutrality, to follow a sustainable energy transition that guarantees the security and resilience of the energy system and favors businesses and families. Italy is in fact following a national strategy that in a transparent and gradual way, promotes a pragmatic re-evaluation of the role of nuclear energy as a decarbonized, safe, reliable and programmable source". “We are happy,” Pichetto Fratin concluded, "to collaborate and work actively from today with all the countries of the Nuclear Alliance to promote together the definition of a European framework favorable to the development of the entire nuclear energy value chain”.
