Before the U.S. President's early departure, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni had a bilateral meeting with Donald Trump on the sidelines of the G7 Summit, on the eve of the session devoted to foreign policy. During the talks, the two leaders discussed the latest developments in Iran, sharing the need to reopen diplomatic dialogue. Meloni also stressed the urgency of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, at a particularly delicate time for regional balance. Economic relations between Europe and the United States were also among the topics discussed, with a focus on the EU-US trade negotiations. The meeting was also an opportunity to exchange views ahead of the upcoming NATO summit in The Hague.
