“The heart of the Church is torn by the cries rising from places of war, particularly Ukraine, Iran, Israel and Gaza”. With these words, spoken at the end of his general audience, Pope Leo issued a new and heartfelt appeal for peace. The Pontiff urged not to give in to habituation to conflict: “We must not become accustomed to war,” he said, stressing the urgency of “rejecting as a temptation the allure of powerful and sophisticated armaments”. A clear message against military escalation and indifference, in favor of a culture of dialogue and reconciliation.
