Gennaro Gattuso is officially the new technical commissioner of the national team, taking over from Luciano Spalletti after the heavy 3-0 loss to Norway. At his presentation press conference in Coverciano, the former midfielder spoke of dreams fulfilled and responsibility: "I hope to be up to the task. The goal is clear: to return to the World Cup". Gattuso stressed the importance of regaining team spirit, enthusiasm and a sense of belonging. "We need a united team, it's not the modules that count but the mentality. We have talent and quality, but we need to be a family". Alongside him will be a staff with familiar faces: Bonucci, Prandelli, Zambrotta and Perrotta. Gattuso promised commitment, attention to youth and continuous dialogue with clubs and players, “I will travel a lot, I will take trains and planes to follow all the players”. On the field, he expects dedication and seriousness: "In training we will go to the top, but I won't be a sergeant. I just want the maximum from everyone". On his identity as a coach, he clarified, “I am no longer just grit, today I have clear ideas of soccer and I want to convey them”.
