On the day of his 43rd anniversary as a priest, Pope Leo XIV made a surprise visit to the Vatican Radio Center in Santa Maria di Galeria. The Pontiff met with staff, visited the historic transmitter room designed by Pier Luigi Nervi and inquired about the operation of shortwave and digital systems. During the meeting, he recalled the importance of radio transmissions in missions in Latin America and Africa, reiterating the missionary value of communication. He also viewed the area where an agro-voltaic plant intended to ensure the energy self-sufficiency of Vatican City is being studied. This is the first visit by a Pope to the site since 1991.
