The most impressive project, not only for the city of Naples but for the entire Mezzogiorno, is the rehabilitation of the Bourbon Hospice of the Poor: the project counts about 100 thousand square meters in the center of the city, that is an unfinished work affected by the 1980 earthquake and which has been waiting for decades for a new arrangement. The arrangement of the executive project has been financed for a total value of 148 million euros. According to Culture Minister Alessandro Giuli, "The Bourbon Hospice of the Poor has extraordinary potential as the site of the new National Library, as the second site of the Archaeological Museum, with a part expressly dedicated to the Pompeian Museum, with the immersive narrative of the ancient city. It will be given back to the world and to those who come to Naples to learn about the history of Italy, as well as Naples itself. Then there is the research, the spaces for archaeology courses of the Southern High School of the Federico II University. The reopening is scheduled for 2026 and 2029, and this, too, will be a piece in a mosaic of a city that is growing, reborn and showing itself to the world in all its extraordinary capacity for development".
