In June, about 6.8 million Italians decided to leave for vacation, a number slightly down (-3%) from the same period last year. Weighing on this decrease would be mainly international uncertainty and concerns about the economic situation. This is according to a Coldiretti/Ixè survey conducted over the weekend that officially marks the start of summer. Despite the drop, June continues to be considered an advantageous month to travel: lodging prices are lower than in the high season, with rates that can be up to 25% lower. Added to this is the ability to avoid the crowds that characterize the middle months of summer. The sea remains the favorite destination, followed by the countryside, nature parks and mountains. Art cities come in fourth place. As for accommodations, hotels and rental apartments remain the most frequent choices, followed by homes of relatives or friends, second homes and B&Bs. Positive signs are also coming from the agritourism sector, which has been growing since spring and during the June 2 holiday season. Driving this trend is the desire for authentic experiences: interest in wine tourism continues to grow, joined by new proposals such as beer tourism, oil tourism and tourism related to dairy products. More and more travelers are choosing to visit production sites directly, participating in tastings, outdoor activities, cooking classes and wellness moments such as yoga or pilates immersed in nature. Also on the rise are so-called “rural walks”, with routes on foot, by bicycle or on horseback, which allow people to get to know the area in a slow and sustainable way.
