Security levels in Italy remain extremely high, particularly around targets, diplomatic posts and symbolic places linked to countries involved in the Middle East conflict. The state of maximum alert had already been activated at the beginning of the crisis in the region, but after recent developments - including the U.S. attack on Iranian sites - measures have been further enhanced. Enhanced surveillance is also in place at the U.S. bases in Aviano and Sigonella, where additional devices are in place to protect military personnel. In Rome, special attention is being paid to targets of U.S. interest, including the headquarters of the U.S. Embassy, for which protection has been increased. Over the weekend, the Ministry of the Interior convened a meeting of the Counterterrorism Strategic Analysis Committee (CASA) and the National Committee for Public Order and Security (CNOSP), chaired by Minister Matteo Piantedosi, with the participation of top police and intelligence leaders. The objective is to assess the current picture and further strengthen the garrison of the territory. The Vatican is also under observation on this Sunday, on the occasion of the second day of the Jubilee of the Rulers, which includes a mass presided over by the Pontiff in St. John's Basilica. The entire perimeter of the Vatican area is being closely monitored, as are the religious events planned in the capital. According to the data provided, there are currently more than 29,000 sites under surveillance in Italy, including more than 10,000 critical infrastructures. About a thousand directly affect U.S. and Israeli interests.
