A wave of emotions and celebrations mark the 150th anniversary of Carmen, Georges Bizet's immortal masterwork. For the occasion, the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma recreated the iconic 1970 production, including Renato Guttuso's sets and costumes. On the podium, the baton is in the hands of Omer Meir Wellber, while the direction is entrusted to Fabio Ceresa, making his debut at the Costanzi. The staging is the culmination of the Capitoline Foundation's extensive restoration efforts, which have recovered and catalogued 310 of Guttuso's 350 original costumes. The painted canvases have also endured, serving as a visual reminder of the scenic work that was curated by Sandro Bolchi and Guttuso himself more than fifty years ago.
