Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni addressed the Chamber ahead of the upcoming EU Council meeting on June 26 and 27: the spotlight is mainly on the situation in the Middle East, but also on Libya, not forgetting sectors in crisis, such as the auto industry, and Defense. During the summit, the Prime Minister is to reiterate "the need for a ceasefire in Gaza, where Israel's legitimate reaction to a senseless attack is taking dramatic and unacceptable forms". She added, "The priorities remain the ceasefire in Gaza and the resumption of negotiations on Iran". The PM then reaffirmed her commitment to meeting the new NATO targets for military spending (3.5% for defense and 1.5% for security) because, she punctuated, “we will not leave Italy exposed, weak and unable to defend itself”.
