Rome is preparing for a one-of-a-kind event: on Thursday, June 26th, at 9 p.m., the Colosseum's façade will be transformed into a spectacular canvas of light and images to celebrate the "Year of Cultural Exchange Italy-Korea 2024-2025", marking the anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. For the first time, the Republic of Korea brings to the heart of the capital a media facade projection on Rome’s most iconic monument, merging technology, art, and cultural heritage in an unprecedented way. The initiative, organized by South Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism (Minister Yu In Chon), is a collaboration between the Korean Cultural Institute in Italy, the Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (KOFICE), the Colosseum Archaeological Park, and the Municipality of Rome. The projection, which has a strong visual and emotional impact, was curated by leading artists from both countries: the well-known Korean video artist Lee Lee-nam, the Italian collective Squatters Lap, the artist Vincenzo Marsiglia, and the creative team Korea Round, composed of young Italian and Korean talent. A cross-cultural interaction represented through contemporary visual languages in the timeless setting of the Colosseum. "Our screening has skillfully united the art and technology of Korea and Italy in an iconic world heritage site", Yoon Yang-soo, Head of the Korean Ministry's International Cultural Affairs Office, stated. "It is a significant symbolic achievement that creates new opportunities for cultural partnership. We hope that the dialogue between young Korean and Italian artists will continue to flourish, strengthening the relationships between our countries". The event is part of a series of cooperative activities that will bring Italy and Korea together in the pursuit of art, debate, and cultural collaboration in 2024 and 2025.
