On Monday morning, the crew of a yacht occupied Cala Goloritzé, jewel of the Ogliastra coast and recently named the most beautiful beach in the world by The World's 50 Best Beaches ranking. Staff members landed chairs, tables, umbrellas and other items, turning the protected area into an exclusive private oasis. The report came directly from the municipality of Baunei, which reported the incident in a Facebook post. Thanks to the intervention of local security, the occupation was stopped and the beach was immediately cleared. “Cala Goloritzé is everyone's heritage”, read a note from the municipality, "and cannot be reserved for the exclusive use of private individuals unless there is a clear public interest". The administration then hoped that such episodes would not be repeated, stressing the importance of respect for a place that is symbolic of Sardinia and environmentally protected.
