The Chamber of Deputies has adopted the delegation bill on artificial intelligence, which was proposed by the government to align national legislation with the new European Regulation (AI Act) and promote the ethical and responsible use of intelligent technologies. The text must now be submitted to the Senate for a second reading. The bill seeks to govern the use of AI in critical sectors such as healthcare, justice, public administration, research, and employment. It also guarantees the creation of a national strategy, the acquisition of new skills for the National Cybersecurity Agency and the Agency for Digital Italy, as well as the provision of funds for experimental projects and tax incentives to encourage research and innovation. This is, in the opinion of the ruling majority, a step toward the establishment of an "anthropocentric" governance of artificial intelligence, which is capable of integrating the preservation of rights with technological advancement. However, opposition parties have raised concerns, criticizing the measure for its limited scope and lack of adequate guarantees for citizens.
