A letter calling for conversion to Islam has appeared in recent days in numerous mailboxes in Mestre's Piave neighborhood, one of the city's most multiethnic areas. “I would like to share with you how a person can enter Paradise”, reads the beginning of the text, made known by Il Gazzettino paper. It is a six-page document, written in both Italian and English, photocopied, rolled up and closed with a rubber band. The authors of the initiative are not known at the moment, and even Islamic cultural centers in the area said they were unaware of it. The dissemination of the flyer surprised many residents, stoking fears of possible tensions related to religious coexistence. In an email sent later, the alleged author - who describes himself as a simple Muslim and says he is not connected to the local mosque - explained that he wanted to “spread the message of the one God” and had translated the content using Google.
