At the end of today's Angelus in St. Peter's Square, Pope Leo XIV made a heartfelt appeal for peace: “Sisters and brothers, let us continue to pray so that everywhere weapons may be silenced and work for peace through dialogue”. The Pontiff then expressed his closeness to the community of the Barthélémy Boganda High School in Bangui, in the Central African Republic, which was hit by a tragic accident that left many students dead and injured. “I assure my prayers,” he said, “May the Lord comfort the families and the entire community”. A special thought also went to the faithful of Rome, gathered to celebrate the feast of the Patron Saints. The Pope especially wanted to thank the parish priests and all the priests involved in the city's parishes, expressing gratitude and encouragement for their service. Recalling the witness of Peter and Paul, the Pope emphasized how the Church of Rome is “generated by their faith and fertilized by their blood and that of so many other martyrs”. Finally, he reiterated his commitment to unity among the Christian Churches, speaking of an “Ecumenism of Blood” that unites Christians around the world, even where full communion is not yet realized.
