The National Agency for Cybersecurity has a new weapon to combat cyber-attacks. Megaride is the name of the new supercomputing system that has been activated in the data center of the University of Naples Federico II. Megaride will assist national cyber agencies, notably HyperSOC, a system for enhanced cyber threat monitoring. The machine has 300 computing nodes and 28,000 cores. Furthermore, the system is equipped with a 50 Petabyte storage capacity and the ability to interconnect with the Leonardo supercomputer, which is located at the Tecnopolo DAMA in Bologna and is ranked as the tenth most powerful in the world. "Megaride is a significant advancement in the development of a European infrastructure for high-performance computing”, stated Roberto Viola, director general of the Connect department of the European Commission. Viola also pointed out that Italy is “playing an undeniable leadership role in this field, as shown by its recent selection to host one of the main AI Factories funded by the EuroHPC joint venture".
